When one first thinks of astrology, one usually conjures up ideas of an arcane discipline that is shrouded in mystery, known and practiced by a select few, or simply an incomprehensible, abstruse grammar about the meaning of it all. The mathematical rules, the numerous symbols, and the esoteric meanings behind astrology can be off-putting to even the most ardent seeker of deeper meanings and truths. In short, astrology is often disregarded not simply because its validity and legitimacy are questioned, but because it is believed to be too heady and too much of a cerebral exercise that is not grounded in reality.

The very name of this website, "Astro-Noetics.com" unfortunately encourages this idea that astrology is an intellectual discipline, as "noetics" refers to sciences of the mind. However, the truth is that astrology is a science of life itself and is very much about the ebb and flow of being human. Although astrology uses symbols that are outside the margins of daily life—planets and Zodiacal Signs, for example—its principle value and concern is about our individual and collective experiences right here and right now.

To discredit the myth that astrology is simply an abstract mental exercise, this essay is going to focus on the primary storehouse of our experience, our bodies. Astrology suggests that planetary movements mirror the various changes and transformations we experience through a lifetime. As the planets move and change alignments, we evolve. Nowhere is this fact of evolving so apparent as to the changes we experience in our bodies.

All of us experience the various processes of the body: we age, we loose weight, we feel buoyant and healthy, we feel sick and feeble, we feel vital and virile, we feel impotent and sterile. These processes are not linear but occur cyclically and seemingly arbitrarily. In the prime of our lives, we may experience a brief period of disease, ill-health, and apparently loose our physical attractiveness. Conversely, as old age beckons, we may feel a renewed sense of vitality, our bodies rejuvenate and we experience something analogous to a second spring or adolescence. The point is that, although astrology doesn't suggest the causes for the various ebb and flow of our body's changes, it does propose that there is a relationship and correlation between the movement of planets and the changes that one experiences in the body.
