The Birthchart
Through unearthing the details of Spielberg's childhood, the potentials of his astrological birthchart already manifest themselves in his early biography. Born under a Uranus-Sun opposition, Spielberg exuded many of the positive traits of this potent combination from an early age. People born with Uranus and Sun in angular relationship often feel compelled to accentuate their own individual uniqueness and feel an obligation to stand out and use their strong wills to not fit in to prescribed molds. This specialness, this reveling in one’s own distinctive creativity, is often misunderstood and is quickly labeled as “weird” and “strange.”
Spielberg was no exception; his passion for film at an early age and his experimental exuberance toward life made him stand out from the crowd and earned him the labels of “wacky” and “bizarre.” As Spielberg himself describes, “I think I was never considered really weird, the way the philosophy majors were weird. But I was considered different.”2
Not only are Sun-Uranus people likely to stand out in youth, but they are more inclined to follow their own creative spark, or pursue what the Greeks called “daimon.” Spielberg took his family’s storytelling tradition and his father’s love of electronics and poured them into a love of the relatively new art of movie-making. So obsessed was he by film that by the time he entered high school, academics was a mere afterthought in relation to his passion. Much like his recent collaborator, Stanley Kubrick, (who also possessed a Sun-Uranus aspect in his birthchart), Spielberg was in serious pursuit of his vocation and dream when others were debating college choices and pursuing prom dates. It is this intractable need to follow their own calling, often at the admonishment of parents and friends, which is the mark of a strong Uranus in the birthchart.
